Film Distribution

Film Distribution:

Distribution is a key element for a film to make as much profit as possible or to at least break even. Distribution companies and Studio productions are normally stuck to a project during pre-production, and this will most likely be a sister company to the production company. In the Independent industry, getting distributed can be a challenge. Some distribution companies can be attached from the outset and this will majorly help the independent companies attract more bigger organisations that have more money. On most occasions  films will be taken to film festivals in hope to find a film buyer that will purchase the film and help improve it. Most companies have a sales agent who's main aim is to find distribution companies.

Definitions:

Sister company - under the umbrella of a conglomerate organisation a production company will have access to ‘sister’ companies such as distributors also owned by the conglomerate (who we can consider as the ‘parent’ company).

Task 1: Monsters University (2013)

Target Audience:
Monster University's main target audience is mainly aimed at young children aged 12 below. However this film is different compared to most pixar films. The first film (Monsters Inc) was made in 2001 and the children aged 18-19 now would be the main people who would be off to university or college. I think that this film was released the same time as the age range back then to make it feel like that they have grown up in a way that you can still watch a pixar film and it can relate to you.
However this is a film that can be enjoyed many a wide target audience as there is no extreme violence or language used. On the psychograph and demographic graph, this film doesn't really have a specific target audience as it is a film mainly aimed towards minors, but the closest you would get to would be the E section on the demographic graph.

Main USP
The main USP for this film was the success of the past one (which is ranked a 8.1 in imdb) and it helps show that there is high expectations if the first one was so good. There is nothing that similar compared to the films that were also coming out at the time, however as people know the Monsters Inc series are a good family film, people still enjoy it. It was a very succesfull film and ended up gaining a Domestic Total Gross of $268,492,764
